The primary purpose of Point of Refuge is to provide a Christian transitional living experience for men in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction.
Our vision is for these men to establish a solid foundation in Jesus Christ, in accordance with the Holy Scriptures, resulting in a personal relationship with Him.
Point of Refuge is a Sanctuary including teaching, fellowship, worship, and prayer.
On January 30, 2004, we purchased a property at 6216 N. 27th Avenue, Phoenix, Arizona, 85017. After much repair and remodeling, we opened our doors in April of 2005. We currently have several men living in the home, and we periodically accept applications. The Lord has truly blessed us, and we pray that Point of Refuge will be a blessing to many others in the years to come.
We hold a Men's 12 step Bible study every Thursday from 7:30 to 8:45 pm, and a regular bible study on Monday nights at 7:10pm.
Point of Refuge is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation.
John 1:1-5 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it."
We believe the Bible is the Word of God, inspired and without error. It is our only source of Authority in matters of faith, conduct, and truth.
We believe there is one eternal God, who manifests Himself in three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ willingly took on the body of man. He was conceived by the Power of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered, was crucified, died, and was buried. On the third day He rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
We believe that Jesus came as a spotless Lamb. He became our sinless substitute by shedding His blood on the cross to completely atone for our sins.
We believe that every person is born with a sinful nature, and is spiritually dead. Our only hope is if Jesus Christ gives us His Life. This can only be found through faith in Him and His finished work on the cross. It is the free gift of God to those who will recieve it.
We believe the Lord Jesus will come again to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the life everlasting.
We believe that believers should assemble for the purpose of mutual edification, encouragement, worship, service and evangelism.
It is our prayer that every man who comes in contact with Point of Refuge may hear the truth of God's Word, and the hope to be found in His Son, Jesus Christ. Amen.
In the late 1990s, seven or eight of us had become good friends through A.A. (Alcoholics Anonymous). What we also had in common was that each of us had come to a saving knowledge that Jesus Christ is real, and that His desire is to have a personal relationship with each of us. By putting our trust and faith in Him and what He has done for us, we have found peace with God.
This incredible, simple truth, based on God's love for us, has so transformed our lives, it is mind-boggling! Along with this came an increased desire and need to know more of God's Word through His Holy Bible. Knowing we would not find this in A.A., we decided to start our own 12-Step Bible Study. We choose the Holy Bible and the workbook "Serenity" as our reference material. "Serenity" is simply the New Testament, Psalms, and Proverbs, with certain scripture highlighted showing that the twelve steps are based on Bible Scriptures.
We got together every Thursday night from 8-9:15pm for the purpose of praise, hearing the Word of God, sharing, and encouraging one another's faith in Christ. For the first couple of years, we met at St. Theresa's Church on 48th St. and Thomas in Phoenix, AZ. For the next 12 years we met at Mount of Olives Church, until we opened our present facility. Each year we have a spiritual retreat at Hawley Lake, Arizona.
In August of 2001, we began to take a more serious look at what the Lord was doing with us as a group. For many years, we have had men from the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center coming to our meetings. These are men who have voluntarily come to our meetings in search of a spiritual solution to life. What we have seen is that there are many in their first six months of sobriety that seem to do okay while they are in a rehab or other controlled living environment. But, soon after they go out on their own, a high percentage go back to their old ways.
We feel that there is an obvious need, and we believe that we have been called to fill the void. We established a Christian transitional living experience for men in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.
Our goal is to help these men develop a solid foundation in the person of Jesus Christ, and show them how to look to His Word for direction in life.
We have experienced these truths. We have been set free from the bondage of chemical dependencies. We have found a purpose and a joy in life that has been given to us by Him. May we all walk with Him, and trust in Him! Hallelujah!
